New Year, New Number! 1-877-GLOBE-07!
We've changed our toll-free number! Effective January 2nd, you can call Here on Earth anytime at 1-877-GLOBE-07. Why the change? As our Technical Director, Joe Hardtke, puts it: "We want to get all of our listeners involved in the show." Read Joe's explanation at The Blog Without Borders.
Job Opening
We are looking for one to two part-time producers. Apply before Jan 31, 2009 if you are interested.
Inside Islam Launched
A grant from the national Social Science Research Council (SSRC) has allowed UW-Madison and Here on Earth to launch special radio, blog and web programs on Islam and Muslims around the world. We're all really excited about this Here on Earth new media series. It's called Inside Islam: Dialogues and Debates.
The latest program in the series is Women and Sharia. In Somalia, a 13 year old girl was recently stoned to death by Islamist extremists for reporting her rape. In Pakistan, one new cabinet member defended the murder of three girls who were buried alive for wanting to choose their own husbands. Is this Islamic law or a feudal form of clan justice? Who speaks for Muslim women? You can leave your comments on Women and Sharia or our hotline 608-890-0269.
Listen to or download Women and Sharia:
